What are your goals? When is the last time you shared your goals with your direct reports or your leaders?
Have you worked with your direct reports to help establish good goals?
Good goals are: Specific, Actionable, Concise, Aspirational and developed through a combination of top down & bottom up communication between managers & direct reports.
Good goals are not: Vague generalizations or (only) top down mandates.
You need buy-in, you need to keep them focused on the prize. When you are getting tired of saying it, they are just starting to hear you.
(For non-CEO’s reading this…If your manager has not shared their goals with you, it may be time for YOU to share your goals with them. If you have direct reports, then you should be working with them to set goals.)
“Goals provide the energy source that powers our lives. One of the best ways we can get the most from the energy we have is to focus it. That is what goals can do for us; concentrate our energy.” Denis Waitley
